Mr. Donald Jerome Raether, age 74, of Covington, died Thursday, January 29, 2015, at his residence. He was the husband of Peggy Gann Raether.
Mr. Raether was born July 30, 1940 in Eau Claire, WI, the son of the late Lawrence Raether and Doris Senske Raether. A resident of this community since 1967, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the construction field. Donald enjoyed fishing and woodworking as well as loved cats.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Raether is survived by one son, Mark D. Raether and wife, Shawn of Clifton Forge; and a number of step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Raether was preceded in death by one son, Michael L. Raether.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial tributes be made to the Alleghany Humane Society, P.O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA 24457.
